The mission of Arden
Shore Child and Family
Services is to rebuild children’s lives in a caring community.
Founded in 1898 by members of the Glencoe Congregational Church, Arden Shore
began as a summer respite camp on the shores of Lake Michigan in Lake Bluff for
impoverished mothers and children. Over the years the focus has changed but the
driving force has always been the commitment to meet the needs of children and
Today, the agency
promotes the health and well-being of the diverse children and families from Lake County, Illinois
with an emphasis on helping those with significant psychological, emotional and
behavioral problems, resulting from abuse or neglect, trauma and mental
illness. To achieve its mission, Arden
Shore takes a
family-centered approach and offers bilingual services in Spanish and English for
foster care, family preservation, counseling, residential and related
educational and prevention programs. Arden
Shore carries the backing
of the Council on Accreditation (COA), attesting that the organization meets
the highest national best-practice standards in providing direct services for
children who are victims of abuse and/or neglect.
Arden Shore serves approximately 1500 clients from communities
throughout Northern Illinois with the majority of clients from Waukegan and the surrounding area. Most of
are clients are also of low income with 74% of clients Latino, 15%
African-American, 9% Caucasian and 2% other.
We make the difference by:
- Helping children overcome abuse or neglect
- Uniting families to fully participate in their child’s development
- Promoting health and well-being of children and families
- Reaching those in Lake County who are most in need
