The mission of Arden Shore Child and Family Services is to rebuild children's lives in a caring community.

About Arden Shore

Arden Shore Child and Family Services builds the well-being of children and families in a caring environment with skilled and dedicated professionals. Our communities’ future—our social and economic vitality—depends upon all children having what they need to reach their full potential, cognitively, socially, and emotionally.

Arden Shore has been serving the children and families in Lake County, Illinois for over 118 years. Formed as a summer camp for children and families from the inner city, Arden Shore has constantly evolved to meet the community needs and shifting demographics in our county, at one time serving primarily Polish and German families, and today primarily Latino families. Arden Shore’s mission of “Rebuilding Children’s Lives” remains unchanged.

Operating out of its headquarters in Waukegan, IL. Arden Shore is uniquely situated to serve the children and families of Lake County and the surrounding area, primarily Waukegan, North Chicago, Zion, Gurnee and Round Lake. Over 90% of our clients are residents of Lake County and over 50% are Latino.

Providing Effective and Expert Support

We have worked hard to secure multiple certifications in behavioral health, substance abuse, and foster care. Because we know that the less places that our clients need to visit, the more likely they are to be comfortable and successful.

· Behavioral Health and Support Services is certified to provide substance abuse services to adults by the Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA).

· Awarded a fifth agency re-accreditation status by the Council on Accreditation (COA), which demonstrates best practices in child welfare. Across 400 different standards and a rigorous inspection, Arden Shore did not need to make a single improvement for the first time in its history.

· Received highest ever score of 100% with the Department of Human Services-Division of Mental Health and 97% with Department of Child and Family Services for Medicaid service compliance. Arden Shore’s work was shared with its peers as a best practice in the field.

Because of our highly regarded field learning opportunities for students, Arden Shore is in high demand for intern placements. As a result we have been able to recruit and retain them as high performing employees. We further provide a service to our colleagues in the sector by providing complex Medicaid training that students do not otherwise receive in school. Our team trains and supervises student interns from various colleges and universities, including Loyola University of Chicago, Rosalind Franklin, Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Dominican University, and more to help them get real-world experience that allows them to graduate ready to enter the workforce.

As our community evolves, we evolve. Currently, given the large Spanish-speaking numbers in Waukegan, we make sure we have bi-lingual staff because we know that parents and children are more comfortable and open speaking with therapists and staff who understand their language and culture. This makes their success more likely and allows us to better serve our community.

  • We believe that children and families thrive in a safe and nurturing environment tailored to help them rebuild their emotional and physical well-being.
  • We believe that children and families are more likely to reach their full potential if they have the opportunity to participate actively in their planning and treatment.
  • We believe that it is our responsibility to create an environment which nurtures the inherent gifts and talents of children and their families.
  • We believe that all children and families are capable of learning and changing when they have the tools and support to make healthy choices.
  • We believe that the diversity of the children and families, we serve, and our staff and volunteers enriches and strengthens our ability to build well-being for everyone.
